Songwriting Workshop: Playing with Writing!

September 6, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm CEST

Kr80 – Kr200
Exploring Songwriting with Jonelle Vette

Summer may be ending but we don’t have to stop playing!

Join us for a 3-hour, all-levels, lyric and songwriting workshop that combines writing exercises with generating song ideas and discussions in a masterclass format. If you have a song, a song idea, or a work in progress, bring it. There is a piano and acoustic guitar available but if you want to bring your own set up or a song recording, that would be great. We will probably have time to look at 1-3 participants’ songs. If you don’t have a song to bring, just listen and participate in other aspects of the experience. (Participating as an observer can be as beneficial as bringing your own song.)

What to Expect
• engage in writing exercises
• play around with finding and developing new song ideas
• looking at a few professional writing techniques applicable to your song or question
• listen to, and talk about participants’ songs or answer questions
• become more conscious of the types of choices we have as songwriters Expect lessons, discussions and examples in the following types of areas:
• imagery in lyrics
• prosody / balance vs imbalance
• verses / choruses / sections of songs
• rhyming
• song development
• song form
• setting
• creative process etc.

Testimonials
“Jonelle’s songwriting workshops gave us an exclusive tour behind the craft of lyric writing. She invited us to observe some of the structure behind a song, and how to keep the listener’s attention from beginning to end. After every session, we walked away with at least one clear tool to work with … If Jonelle’s ship happens to pass your shores … try to get on board!” B. Heens – songwriter, producer, designer, teacher & participant in “Exploring Lyrics” (a 3 part, 9-hour workshop)

“Thanks for the invigorating workshop. I really enjoyed it. It was nice to feel there was space to delve into any aspect of the topic that interested us, and to then get knowledgable answers to all those questions. Nice group of people, too. :-)” G. Arnold – screenwriter & participant in “Productive Repetition” (and various others)

“Very good workshop! It has provided new ways to think about and write lyrics.” – T. Edholm – songwriter & professional musician

“Great meetup, we got a lot of tips on how to improve our songwriting skills!” – Anna-Karin Berqvist, songwriter
