Welcome to Lakesongs Songwriter Retreat (a Stockholm Musicians Meetup), Thursday June 1, – Sunday, June 4, 2017. Camp and enjoy a weekend of songwriting workshops, collaborations, and performance opportunities in a gorgeous setting. We hope this event not only supports the music and creator in you, but also makes Stockholm feel a bit more like “home”.

What to expect:

  • 6-8 hours daily of classes and discussions led by Jonelle and guided by the whole group
  • Participation in writing exercises and discussions
  • Presentations on theoretical aspects of songwriting (always in an interactive, conversational format)
  • Examination of your original and popular songs in a masterclass format
  • Evening performances opportunities
  • Intimate group size: 15 people maximum this year for classes and daily activities.
  • Saturday evening, open invitation: We will also allow open attendance by SMM members on Saturday night that weekend, after 7pm.
  • Meditation sessions: For anyone interested just let me know. I am happy to hold morning meditations.

What to bring:

  • For performances and for masterclass sessions, bring at least one or two original songs (the more the better!) that you can perform comfortably in front of the group, or that you can teach someone else to play for you. Or, if you have a basic recording of your song(s), that is also a great option.Bring your knowledge, your questions, your comments, your selves and a willingness for open communication
  • Instruments: Please bring your instrument of choice. Participants are welcome to use our 2 acoustic guitars for classes and performances (a Little Martin and a Sigma) + 1 Electric guitar, 1 electric bass, a few amps. We might be able to set up a keyboard but we have no piano.
  • Sleeping bag / tent
  • Food / snacks (Food won’t be provided but morning coffee, yes!)

Testimonials

“Jonelle’s songwriting workshops gave us an exclusive tour behind the craft of lyric writing. She invited us to observe some of the structure behind a song, and how to keep the listener’s attention from beginning to end. After every session, we walked away with at least one clear tool to work with … If Jonelle’s ship happens to pass your shores … try to get on board!” B. Heens – songwriter, producer, designer, teacher. Participant in “Exploring Lyrics” (a 3 part, 9-hour workshop).

“Thanks for the invigorating workshop. I really enjoyed it. It was nice to feel there was space to delve into any aspect of the topic that interested us, and to then get knowledgable answers to all those questions. Nice group of people, too. :-)” G. Arnold – screenwriter. Participant in “Productive Repetition” and others.

“Very good workshop! It has provided new ways to think about and write lyrics.” – T. Edholm – songwriter & professional musician. Participant in “Exploring Lyrics”, a 3 part, 9-hour workshop.
